• RECOMMENDED COVID PRECAUTIONS PER CDC GUIDANCE:
    • If you have tested POSITIVE for COVID, or any other infectious disease, please follow CDC guidelines.
    • We encourage any Westerner who has had an exposure to a COVID-infected person, or is having symptoms, to strongly consider COVID testing.
    • HIKING RULES:
      • DO NOT HIKE if you are sick or experiencing fever or flu-like symptoms.
      • Each hike season, every hiker must have executed a Release of Liability form before departing on any hike.
      • Each hiker must sign the club register before departing from the trail head on a hike.
      • Photos and GPS tracking are allowed on hikes; however, publishing photos with location data, maps, tracks, or coordinates, or identifying sensitive areas such as ruin sites and rock art, is strictly prohibited. This restriction includes print media and internet web sites. Set GPS tracking and trail mapping app to private, not public.
      • HIKERS MUST
        • Practice "Leave no Trace" --- pack out what you pack in, including toilet tissue! Avoid sensitive soil, and respect wildlife.
        • Have sufficient water (at least 2 liters, more on hot days), and wear lug-soled hiking boots.
        • Stay between the Leader and the Tailgater at all times.
        • Silence cell phones and refrain from using them while hiking except for taking photos and using tracking apps. In case of an emergency, use phones only with the Leader’s consent.
        • Notify the Leader immediately of illness, injury, or any special medical needs.
      • All hikers are expected to complete hikes. In the case of illness or injury, a hiker may leave the hike with the consent of the Leader if accompanied by two people, at least one of whom knows the trail.
      • Hikers must respect archeological ruins. Leave things as you found them! Some Some specific guidelines can be found here.
      • Hikers are not allowed to bring pets on hikes.
      • Hikers should bring lunch and a snack for all hikes.
      • Wearing a hat, carrying a pair of gloves, and hiking poles are recommended but not required. Sunglasses and sunscreen are also recommended.
